Heights of Abraham

In Matlock Bath, the east shoulder of Masson Hill over the gorge is called the Heights of Abraham from a fancied resemblance to the heights scaled by General Wolfe and his men in capture of Quebec. House (many of them guest houses) are perched on the side of the hill here and there among the trees and the exclusively steep and narrow roads up the hillside were made to serve these houses. The top of the hill is not accesible by car.
