Follow the Warslow road beyond the Charles Cotton pub (Izzac Walton is similarly commemorated by a Hotel at the southern end of Dovedale); the pottery on your left is worth a visit. Your route is clearly signposted to Beresford Dale. Follow the path south, ignoring the footpath junctions. Continue to the banks of the beautiful River Dove.

Keeping the river to your right, follow the path through Beresford Dale and continue through Wolfscote Dale for approx. one mile; here is Biggin Dale, joining from the north-east (ie. coming from the left).

Turn left up the 'dry' Biggin Dale, with some gentle hills ascending to a point where the footpath through the dale diverges. Take the left fork, which arcs around to the right eventually ending at a minor road. The little village of Biggin is to your right, along the road a few yards.

Turn left along the road to a narrow lane; continue beyond the junction until a footpath can be attained a few yards further on, to your left.

The path delivers you to Crossland Sides and a gentle amble back into Hartington.
