NOTE: This being a short walk, you may care to sample some of the delights of Matlock: the cable car, country park and caverns (Tel. 01629 582365 for winter times/details).

Start at Matlock Bridge by the railway station. From the main (A6) road turn right and walk up the Snitterton road; turn left along the footpath (signposted for Bonsall). The path is clear, crossing a field and a lane, then continuing via a series of stiles to Masson Lee Farm.

Continue beyond the farm, head for a stile - at the top of the field - to attain a track. Turn right then left by the quarry, through stiles to another track. A few yards along the track you will see a stile on your left. Go through this and cross two fields to yet another track. Turn left here, and continue into Bonsall; the 17th century King's Head Inn is conveniently situated ahead.

Walk left, up Church Street, with Bonsall Church to the right. Turn left up the lane, bearing right. Stay with the track ahead, until it turns left to Ember Farm. Continue ahead along the clear footpaths.

The path brings you to Matlock via woods and a descent (clearly signposted) of the 'Heights of Abraham'. Turn left along the path, passing the chapel (St. John's) then left again onto another clear footpath.

Cross the fields to rejoin the start of this walk; a simple turn right brings you back to your starting point at Matlock Bridge.
