From the Haywood car park, off the B6054 (near the Grouse Inn) either
walk along the road or follow the path for a short distance before
ascending the steps to the B6054. Opposite the steps is the start of the
edge top path, marked by a white gate.

Follow the obvious path, pleasantly wooded initially, then beyond the
stream (gate) the edge shows its true character and the views to your
right become expansive. Along the edge, the Froggatt Pinnacle is a major
feature; the more energetic may (carefully) scramble down the rocky
descent gully here to take a closer look at the faces of the edge; if
further exploration proves tempting, continue the walk by following the
path below the edge to its end.

If the lower path has been followed, ascend the steep bank to rejoin the
easier path on the edge top; you now continue along the still well-defined
path along the top of Curbar Edge.
![]()
Curbar Edge retains its reputation as a testing crag for rock climbing
purists: bolt protection is anathema on grit, and the severest routes
require total commitment, not to mention a dynamic style. Continue along
the top of Curbar Edge to the Curbar Gap where the path meets the minor
road.![]()
On reaching the minor road turn right and descend along the road towards
Curbar; a path over the field ahead cuts the corner. Rejoin the minor
road and ascend through Curbar to the main A623 road, where the Bridge Inn
offers an opportunity for refreshment, if required.
![]()
Follow the road in the direction of Calver for a few yards; turn right
(north) and continue along the track, passing Calver Mill (the present
building dates from 1804 on the site of an earlier structure gutted by
fire) to your right. Stay with the track, beyond a farmhouse:(stocking
farm) and through the caravan site, with the mill stream (The Goit) to
your right, to emerge at a sharp bend in the B6054 road.
![]()
Cross the road and continue along the riverside path to a minor road;
follow this for a few yards to Froggatt Bridge over the river Derwent.
Bear left and keep straight ahead; follow the walled track which leads to
a clear field path.
![]()
The field path enters the delightful Haywood, then re-emerges to cross
fields; follow the path all the way to Grindleford bridge spanning the
river Derwent.
![]()
From the road at Grindleford follow the farm track (on your right) then
ascend via the path ahead through Haywood, bearing right to attain the car
park and the starting point of the walk.
