From the Castleton car park follow the pedestrian exit (i.e. the eastern exit) and then turn left along the road. Continue for approximately half a mile, then take the left fork, which is signposted 'Hollins Cross'.

Leave the road and follow the path to the right, ascending to Hollins Cross. Your reward on reaching the top of the path is an excellent view over Edale.

At Hollins Cross turn right and walk along the ridge path; first you walk over the shale-faced Back Tor, then on to the distinctive Lose Hill.

After enjoying the open views along the ridge and from the summit of Lose Hill (which is owned by the National Trust) you descend to the valley via the obvious path; the village of Hope, your objective, is clearly visible to the south-east.![]()
Cross the stile (by the National Trust sign) and follow the path by a broken wall; continue the descent to the valley. The path now joins a farm road which brings you to the Edale Road.

Turn right and walk along the Edale Road to Hope; the church is ahead, across the busy A625, and the Old Hall to your right as you approach the Edale Road/A625 junction.

Cross the A625, then take the road west of the church to the fork, where you go right; here is a stile (to your right), which you cross.

Follow the field path - with Peakshole Water on your right - all the way to Castleton Road.

On reaching the A625 at a point just east of Castleton you simply turn left along the road and walk into the heart of the village.
